Ardagh Glass Packaging - North America's journey to zero waste

Published: June 9, 2022

As part of our role in the circular economy, Ardagh Glass Packaging – North America investigated the possibilities of waste recovery and diverting waste from landfill.

In 2019 our glass facilities in Burlington, Wisconsin and Ruston, Louisiana successfully diverted 100% of their non-hazardous oily debris from landfill. By segregating oily debris in a special container and sorting through waste bin contents, the teams removed metals for recycling and then passed the remaining contents through a press. The press recovered free flowing oil, which was collected in drums and recycled. Any remaining oily debris solids were shredded, transferred to a pelletizer and formed into alternative fuel pellets.

Special thanks to our waste suppliers in helping us to identify recycling opportunities to ensure zero waste to landfill. We look forward to rolling out this new way of working with waste in our other production facilities.
