Ardagh opens two new can facilities in America
Leading packaging producer Ardagh Group is opening two new can manufacturing facilities to bring new metal packaging technology to the United States following a supply agreement with ConAgra Foods, one of North America’s largest packaged food companies. The factories are located in Reno, NV, and Roanoke, VA.
Over $230 million has been invested in two new state-of-the-art DWI can making facilities in Reno and Roanoke, VA that will manufacture Ardagh’s flexible DWI (Drawn and Wall-Ironed) cans as well as traditional 3-piece cans. These unique thin-wall DWI food cans are new to America following a successful launch in Europe. Eighty five new jobs have been created to operate the facility in Reno and one hundred new jobs in Roanoke where, in addition to DWI and 3-piece cans also sanitary ends will be produced.
Both plants will be officially opened in early November at invitation-only celebratory events in front of groups of local dignitaries and representatives from both companies.
James Willich, CEO of Ardagh Group, Metal, Americas, commented: “We are delighted that ConAgra Foods chose to partner with Ardagh to provide our innovative metal packaging solutions. Our approach to DWI will allow ConAgra Foods to convert many lower-volume, specialty shelf sizes to this process, as well as to make weight reductions.
“We evaluated many sites for our expansion in both the east and the west. Both locations gave us a number of attractive benefits such as a well-developed infrastructure, proximity to our major customer, the availability of skilled labor, a favorable business tax structure and cost of living.”
