Ardagh features at Canstruction Chicago

At the 2018 Canstruction Chicago event, Ardagh Group cans were featured in some of the competition pieces. Teams from across the architectural, engineering and construction industry in Chicago spent time using donated cans of food – including from Ardagh

Group clients ConAgra and StarKist – to build elaborate “cansculptures”, featuring popular superheroes such as Mr. Incredible, Black Panther and Groot, as well as cathedral columns and recreations of Chicago buildings.

The cans in each sculpture were selected because they can be used to create a unique meal. Each of the 25 cansculptures used thousands of cans with the “Most Cans Used” award going to “Black Canther”, which used approximately 18,000 cans of food.

The cansculptures were available to view at the Chicago Merchandise Mart over the summer ahead of an awards ceremony, after which the cans were donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. You can view some of the amazing cansculptures here.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository has since distributed the cans among more than 700 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programmes. All in all, the cans were part of more than 100,000 meals!
